People skills are one of the most important skills you can get hold of in life, especially as an entrepreneur. In business, we deal with people all day, every day in the form of our spouses, customers, employees, competitors and also regulatory authority. Admittedly there are diverse types of people, however at the core of our beings we all want the same thing and would behave in a certain way under certain conditions.
It’s 2017; the later end of it albeit it’s not too late to revive your marketing strategy? The average entrepreneur’s marketing strategy consists of the usual ads, blogging, promotions etc. (does that describe you?) that’s why there is a lot of struggle for the limited marketing space. Every marketing attempt must be backed up with a sound marketing strategy. So, what’s your marketing strategy? Today, I want to present you with a widely used but not commonly known marketing strategy known as SNOB APPEAL.
It’s been almost 4 years since I started this ‘I am an Entrepreneur’ life. In this time, I have started a consulting business, helped other businesses raise money, started a website design business and designed over 20 websites, started a skills based training business, sold commodities/goods all while holding down a very busy, full time job. Needless to say I have made some mistakes; some which have been costly while others with no serious consequence.
In your early years as a business person, mistakes are expected and accepted and while I know failure can be good, I don’t agree you have to fail to succeed. The reason why we have others is so we can learn from their mistakes and failures and so minimize or eliminate ours.
Well yes, suits isn’t about entrepreneurs at least not directly but we must all agree that the fashion game on the show is on point! Their clothes as well as their characters command respect; they have an air of professionalism, affluence and authority. As an entrepreneur, a new one for that matter what matters when people see you isn’t only what you offer but how you are offering it. Your audience (potential investors/clients) will most likely not remember all the 10 special things your new app can do for them or how long the code was for the newest software you are putting together but they sure will remember how you look and how you made them feel; they will remember if they didn’t like you initially or if they felt at ease with you.
A wise man once said only a fool would expect a different result by doing the same thing.

Congratulations! You have gotten to the stage where you need extra hands to keep things going smoothly in your business. As your startup gets bigger, the need arises to bring on people to join your team and it’s important to think about not only the kind of person you’re hiring, but also the role they’ll play in your growing business. In the few months when I worked as a Human Resources Administrator at a Startup one thing I realized quickly was the difficulty startups face in attracting and retaining the best people for the job.
Happy (belated) New Year!
It’s the second month in the year and I can feel time moving by very fast; before we know what hit us we would be celebrating Christmas again!
I trust that just like everyone else, you set goals and targets for the year; have you achieved any of your goals for the year? What business/financial goal did you set and which have you achieved? You would agree with me that you can’t go to a new level with an old strategy; to do new things, you need a new strategy. One of such strategies is choosing the type of customers you would be working with and those you would be avoiding this year. This single strategy can make or break your business/financial goals for 2016!
Ideas are worth a penny but good ideas don’t come cheaply or easily; at least to the most of us. We tend to think of inventors as another species—geniuses—who have sudden flashes of insight. Some of us can’t think of a single instance when a light bulb went off in our head, leading to some killer new idea. According to historians who specialize in the development of inventions and the thought processes of inventors, innovation is often a slow and iterative process. [National Geographic].
As an entrepreneur, you worry about whether or not someone will pay attention to you and your product/service, talk less of giving you money for it. Every business owner who has done it right has been at that stage before and they find out that they did get the first customer and they in fact keep getting clients. Here is how I got my first client.
Entrepreneurship is great; it gives you the freedom to create something you truly care about instead of working sheepishly for a company you care nothing for, it gives you the ability to create a part of history and affect the world the way you desire to; it gives you control over your time and your financial future. All these are admirable and great but despite all the obvious benefits of starting your business, some people will never do it even if they can and should.
